SAMI ALAM

Founder and Designer

Sami Alam is a Paris-based fashion designer and IFA Paris graduate, whose practice connects contemporary fashion with the cultural and material heritage of Bangladesh.

Before establishing SAMI ALAM PARIS, he spent nearly a decade with BRAC Aarong as a designer, working through Herstory by Aarong, its exclusive designerwear section, and closely with artisans and production communities across Bangladesh. He later pursued his Master's in Contemporary Fashion at IFA Paris with a scholarship from BRAC Aarong.

His practice explores how fashion can give new relevance to existing materials, inherited knowledge and human skill, with consideration for environmental responsibility, craft preservation and the people behind making.

His work includes Blood, Sweat & Tears, his IFA Paris graduation collection selected for Fashion Revolution Open Studio 2022; Made in Bangladesh, presented at InterContinental Paris Le Grand; and MohaArongo – The Great Arena, a 44-foot upcycled Kantha installation created with 250 Bangladeshi artisans for Aarong's flagship store in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

For Sami Alam, fashion is a form of storytelling: a way to bring together material, memory, people and place, creating stories that carry meaning, question what exists and leave space for what can come next.
